History
Midwest Thunder car club was originally formed back in the 90's by a group of guys that had some really nice vehicles. Over a few years or so the nice cars turned into full blown show cars & trucks, and full blown stereo competition vehicles. We didn’t have all the same makes of vehicles; we had a nice variety of different vehicles that we competed with. That is how we came up with the saying "Sound, Style, & Speed" it just fit us as a group so well. So we decided to form a club and go from there.
The first Midwest Thunder event took place in Flanagan, Illinois in August of 1993. For a first time show in a small town, we really had a good turnout that day. The second event took place the following year, and it grew a bit more from the first year. As every car club has conflict of interest between the members we did also. A few members left the club (including myself), but remained friends with everybody that was still in the club. The car club continued with new members and they put on a show in 1995. Shortly after that Midwest Thunder disbanded and everybody went their separate ways.
Six years almost to the day, the name Midwest Thunder was brought out of retirement by one of its founding members (Myself) to host a benefit car show in Pontiac, Illinois. I decided to do a car/truck show to help benefit cancer patients in the Pontiac area. The reason being is my mother was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer in 2001. When I went in front of the City about the event they asked me about a name of the event and the name "Midwest Thunder" popped in my head and there it was resurrected from the past.
Needless to say my mother passed away 21 days before the event was to happen. The car / truck show is a benefit for cancer patients in the area. We (as a club) understands that we cannot pay for someone’s medical bills, but we can furnish them with money for travel to and from there Dr's visits, or chemo/radiation treatments, money for a meal out or groceries. It is just our way of helping them out in this horrific time in their lives, but also at the same time it will be a memorial in my mother’s name. So the name "Midwest Thunder" lives on in my mother’s memory, and that will always live on with me when I think of her.
Now that we head into 2000's, Midwest Thunder is stronger than ever!! We were the "Host Club" for the NMCA & NMRA from 2010-2019. For the "Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing" in Joliet, Il, and the NMRA for their "Super Ford Shootout" event in St Louis Mo. We as a club have also branched out to help the Salvation Army every holiday season, by "ringing the bell" for their Red Kettle Campaign. We also back the Mothers Of Distracted Driving Campaign. This is to stop texting while driving.
One major accomplishment is the past few years, we were asked to run the local monthly cruise nights downtown Pontiac.
It makes me very proud to be apart of this organization, and to be able to do this.
